Data Dissociate
Data Dissociate was a self-directed project that I was required to make for my third semester Emerging Multimedia class. The idea behind this project came during from being very stressed and overwhelmed with both school and my personal life. I found myself feeling nostalgic for the past when the world was simpler and we didn't have the same types of technology at our fingertips. I wanted to expand on this idea with a piece of music that I had begun writing at that time, and I was interested to see what types of visual imagery I could use to convey this feeling. I was lucky enough to have my friend (and her dog) who is an actor to help be the main characters in my video.
Since the video frequently references the protagonist's memory of her past, I found the music to be suiting as it is slightly ambient and playful sounding. To expand on this idea of the past, after splicing the video in Premiere Pro and matching it to the music, I ran the video through two circuit-bent analog video mixers, and into my CRT television for some additional colour enhancement and various feedback/glitch-like effects. the name ".data("dissociate");" is stylized that way because of my personal struggle in my coding class that would often make me feel hopeless. Overall I was quite thrilled with how this piece turned out.
